We also understand the often rocky terrain of publishing — detours, dead ends, and dire situations — and will help you navigate with sure-footedness and success, Heck, we’ll even have fun along the way!
And, unique to CP, we offer writing retreats and author hide-aways if a quiet cabin and endless scenic inspiration is what you need to get ‘er done!
How we help you publish your book . . . and a darn good one at that!
Full Self-Publishing
From Manuscript to Marketplace — that’s the comprehensive scope of our self-publishing, project management and consulting service. Writing a solid book is hard enough — our founder and lead consultant, Jayme H. Mansfield, understands that as a multi-published author of both traditionally and self-published books. Cowgirl Publishing’s mission is to ride along with you through manuscript development, editing, cover and interior design, distribution, and even book marketing.
When you consider Cowgirl Publishing, you’ll initially meet with Jayme via a complimentary consultation. This is your opportunity to share your goals and dreams for book publishing success. We’ll discuss your book’s genre, storyline, theme or subject, your manuscript’s current status, budget thoughts, and anything else that provides a clear vision for our collaborative effort. After the consultation, we create and develop a detailed proposal and plan, including costs and timelines to successfully bring your book to life.
Publishing a book can cost anywhere from $6,000 to $14,000 – including publishing consulting, editing, cover design, interior formatting, eBook, etc. The price variable depends on genre, word count, sales goals, and what kind of shape your manuscript is in when we begin our collaboration. Remember, a 20K word memoir or business book is much different than a 120K epic fantasy or historical fiction.
So please, set up a consultation with us if you’re interested in learning more about saddling up with Cowgirl Publishing.
Book Editing
Developmental, copy line, and proof editing — the triad of strength for a stellar book! Whether your book needs all three, two, or one, great editing is crucial. The fact is, regardless of an author’s talent or what their high school English teacher said, no one catches all the incorrect word choices, accidentally switching up a character’s eye color, misspellings, or overly-used words.
Working with the right editor is a key element to the success of your book. Each editor has a special skill set, and sometimes prefers to work with certain genres. Our team of editors are highly vetted and professional — taking their work seriously to help make your book the best possible.
Cowgirl Publishing wants you to have options and choosing an editor that is the right fit is critical. After your consultation and you decide to move forward, your manuscript will be shared with a handful of best-fit editors. They will complete a sample read and make a proposal for their services. Ultimately, the author decides which editor best meets the writing goals, budget, timeline, style of writing, and mode of communication.
Book Cover Design
Book covers catch . . . or not! If you want your cover to draw people to your book, then working with a highly talented cover designer is a must. Our team includes multiple award winning designers who understand not only the latest styes, but employ the classic elements necessary to make your book professional, enticing, and unique to your book.
How this works . . . your book cover designer will provide a series of drafts that will get a conversation going. Most designers charge a flat rate with a realistic amount of revisions until you are thrilled with the design.
The great aspect is this is a team effort — you benefit from the experienced eye and technical know-how of the designer, while being closely involved to ensure a final outcome that you can hardly wait to hold in your hands.
Book Interior Design
The interior design is just as important as the cover design — font, sizing, chapter headings, white space . . . The reader spends a great deal of time, whether consciously or not, hanging out with the interior design that conveys volumes about the quality of the book.
Our interior book designers will work with you to establish what your readers require. A more substantial font? Headings and subheadings? Chapter headings that convey point-of-view, time period, location? Photographs or illustrations? The list is long and our expert designers will work with you to enrich the overall reader experience.
E-book Creation
Whether you are an E-book reader or not, this is a necessary format, in addition to print, for most books to be found and sold (especially on Amazon).
The interior designer takes care of designing and formatting the E-book version, making this a smooth element of the book production process. Some designers include this service in their flat fee and others charge a small sum.
As the author, your job will be to assist in the process of checking for any “wild hair” conversion mishaps, and then adding the availability of an E-book to your marketing efforts.
Audio Book Creation
Professional, experienced coaching / project management for audiobook projects on Audible’s Audiobook Creative Exchange (ACX).
Fiction or non-fiction book projects.
You consultant will guide you through the entire process of getting your book narrated and produced on Audible / ACX, to include assistance with:
Opening your account and posting your project to ACX
Making all of the necessary publishing decisions

Developing narration scripts and narration notes
Creating PDF documents with supplemental information
Choosing cost brackets
Estimating actual royalty returns
Reviewing and selecting a narrator / producer

Marketing
Getting your book seen and sold — this is where the real rodeo happens!
If your goal is to promote and sell your book, and perhaps launch or further grow your writing career, marketing is a must. And, whether you are groaning and going numb at the truth, or doing the Snoopy dance right now, it’s a reality. So, why not have us ride the wild ride along with you?
Let’s talk about best ideas and practices for you and your audience . . . time, budget, experience with social media and technology, hosting and/or participating in events . . . the list goes on.
Whether you’re interested in a launch party (Zoom or in-person) , book club and speaking gigs, optimizing your Amazon presence, a newsletter and loyal social media following . . . let’s giddy up and get your book out there!
Jayme invites you to a free, half hour Zoom session to discuss your marketing goals and needs. If, after that, you choose to have a detailed marketing plan to follow, we’ll move to a 3-hour time together (broken up in to 3, 1-hour sessions) to discuss best practices and develop a plan that is doable and enjoyable (yes, she actually loves to geek out on the marketing of books!). Cowgirl Publishing does not do your marketing, but we get you “saddled up”, ready to ride, and allow you to have fun along the way!
